The MAP sensor is one of the cheapest sensors to replace. But check the vacuum hose first - a cracked or off line is the #1 cause and costs $5 to fix. See MAP sensors on Amazon ↗
🗺️ Where Is the Problem?
Blueprint view - P0105 fault zone in the engine and emissions control system
These are statistical causes across ALL vehicles - your exact car may rank differently
For example, on a Honda 4-cyl the downstream O2 sensor causes P0105 64% of the time, but on a GM 5.3L V8 the catalytic converter is the cause 71% of the time. Get a probability ranking built specifically for your year, make, model, and mileage.

Failed MAP Sensor
The piezo element inside the MAP sensor has failed. The ECM sees a flat or implausible signal. Replacement is typically a 1-bolt or 2-bolt job at the intake manifold.

Cracked or Disconnected Vacuum Hose
On engines with a remote-mounted MAP, a brittle vacuum hose between the manifold and sensor leaks. The reading goes flat or atmospheric. Replace the hose with fuel-rated tubing.

Wiring or Connector Fault
A chafed signal wire or corroded connector pin breaks the MAP signal. Check continuity of the 5V reference, signal, and ground wires back to the ECM.

🔧 Step-by-Step Diagnosis
- Check vacuum hose integrity - Pull the hose off the MAP, suck on it - it should hold vacuum. Replace if it leaks or is cracked.
- Compare MAP at idle vs key-on - Key on engine off should read ~14.7 psi (atmospheric). At idle should read ~10–12 inHg vacuum. A flat reading either way confirms a bad sensor.

Tips for Choosing a Shop
- Ask if they charge a diagnostic fee and whether it applies toward the repair
- Request a written estimate before approving any work
- Ask specifically about the part brand - OEM vs. aftermarket matters for this code
- Check Google reviews for recent mentions of the specific repair you need
