#2 CAUSE
8L90 Shudder / Torque Converter (2015+)
The 8L90 8-speed in 2015+ Silverados had widespread torque converter shudder problems. GM issued multiple bulletins (PIP5524, 18-NA-355) and switched to a new fluid (Mobil 1 Synthetic LV ATF HP). A flush-and-fill with the new fluid resolves many cases. If shudder remains after the fluid flush, the torque converter and/or 1-2-3-4 clutch may be damaged.

⚠️ Is It Safe to Drive Your Chevy Silverado with P0700?

Drive carefully and have it diagnosed within 1-2 weeks. The 6L80 can run with valve body wear for a while but each hard shift damages clutches. The 8L90 with shudder should be addressed promptly because shudder accelerates torque converter wear.

🔧 How to Diagnose P0700 on a Chevy Silverado

  • Identify your transmission by RPO code. Glove box label MYC = 6L80, MQE = 8L90, MQB = 10L80. The repair path is different for each.
  • Check GM SI for open programming and flush bulletins. 8L90 shudder often resolves with the fluid update.
  • Pull all TCM sub-codes. P0700 alone is meaningless - the companion P0776, P0717, P0973 etc. is what you actually fix.
  • Check fluid level with the scan tool, not a dipstick. Most modern Silverados have no dipstick - level is checked at temperature via scan-tool fluid temperature.
