📋 Quick Snapshot
The Tacoma at 30,000 miles is essentially still new. Toyota does not call for much at this milestone, but Tacomas that see real truck work (towing, off-road, dust) benefit from severe-service intervals on differentials and transfer case. This guide covers both schedules so you can pick the right one.
✅ Essential at 30,000 miles (Toyota/Honda OEM schedule)
These are the items on the manufacturer service schedule at this milestone. Skip nothing here.
- Engine oil + filter. 3.5L 2GR-FKS uses 0W-20 full synthetic. Use Toyota OE cartridge filter or quality equivalent.
- Cabin air filter. Every 15,000-30,000 mi.
- Engine air filter. Every 30,000 mi, more often if the truck sees dust.
- Tire rotation + brake inspection. Every 5,000 mi. Tacomas are notoriously hard on tires when alignment is off.
- Multi-point fluid top-off. Coolant, brake fluid, washer.
🔬 Toyota Tacoma-Specific Items at 30,000 miles
Items specific to the Toyota Tacoma platform that generic service schedules miss.
- 4WD transfer case fluid (severe service). Toyota calls for transfer case fluid at 30K under severe service, 60K normal. If your Tacoma sees off-road or 4WD use, do it at 30K. Spec is Toyota 75W LF.
- Front + rear differential fluid (severe service). Same story: 30K severe service, 60K normal. Front diff: 75W-85 GL-5. Rear diff: 75W-85 GL-5 (open) or 75W-85 GL-5 with limited-slip additive (TRD Off-Road and Pro with rear locker, or LSD models).
- Brake fluid by age. Every 3 years per Toyota. Often due at the 30K visit.
- Tacoma frame inspection. 2005-2010 second-gen Tacomas have frame rust history (recall and warranty extension). Even 2016+ third-gen trucks benefit from an annual frame inspection if they live in salt states.
- Bed bolt + body mount torque check. Tacoma bed bolts and body mounts loosen over time. Worth checking at 30K, especially on trucks that off-road.
